Board Certified Radiation Oncologist
Director of Radiation Oncology
As a physician scientist, I lead innovative clinical and research efforts to advance the care of cancer patients. The broad impact of these efforts is reflected through peer-reviewed manuscripts widely referenced in the worlds of oncology, medical physics/dosimetry, urology, neurology, and neurosurgery. Topics include cancers of the breast, CNS, head & neck, and prostate as well as technical aspects of radiation therapy and cellular regeneration. My translational research led directly to national clinical efforts including NIH-sponsored trials (e.g., radiation-targeted gene therapy), pioneering radiation therapy techniques (e.g., stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT)), and revolutionary technologies that are now incorporated into daily radiation therapy (e.g., IMRT and surgically-implanted continuous marker technology for accurately guiding the safe delivery of radiation therapy).
At a leadership level, the diversity of my academic background enables me to coordinate interdisciplinary teams of surgeons, oncologists, physicists, immuno-oncologists, and administrators. Each of the resulting new multidisciplinary cancer programs achieved the high standards required for accreditation by the Commission on Cancer (CoC), the American College of Radiology (ACR), National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), and other organizations. I continue to volunteer my time at a leadership level for organizations such as the ACR (vice chancellor of radiation oncology) and other non-profit cancer advocacy organizations.
